About Us

Our Purpose

Eliminating plastic pollution and the effect it has on the Puget Sound, temperate rainforests, local wildlife, and humans in Washington State.

The Plastic-Free Washington/Washington Sin Plástico Coalition is a group of organizations, community leaders and businesses dedicated to protecting people, land, water, and wildlife by eliminating plastic pollution in Washington state.

The Coalition is led by Zero Waste Washington, Surfrider Foundation, Seattle Aquarium, Environment Washington, Puget Soundkeeper Alliance, Latino Community Fund, and Oceana.

Join the coalition!  Please email us to let us know you would like to join and help reduce plastics in Washington.

Big thank you to the NW Fund for the Environment for their support of our efforts to educate the public about plastic pollution!

Protecting our land

28 local jurisdictions (representing over 26% of our total state population) have passed ordinances regulating the use of single-use plastic carry-home bags.

In 2019 and 2020, our coalition supported passage of the Reusable Bag Bill, among other bills to reduce plastic pollution in Washington state. Excitingly, the new statewide plastic bag law went into effect on October 1, 2021!
